Spring was in the air and I was ready to start exploring more, so in early April I decided to drive part of the “High Road to Taos”. This Scenic Byway is about 56 miles long and winds through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains between Santa Fe and Taos. The road spans high desert, mountains, forests, small farms, and tiny Spanish Land Grant villages and Pueblo Indian villages. Scattered along the way are galleries and studios of traditional artisans and artists.
I drove through Dixon picked up the Road off Highway 75, near Peñasco. It’s always amazing to me how diverse the landscape is around here: I went from dry scrubby desert like land near Dixon to farm country near Peñasco to thick woodland areas in the Carson National Forest. It was definitely a beautiful scenic drive!
